Opera Director and Baritone Charles Stanton, currently serves as the Artistic
Director of
Opera Beaumont and as Co-Artistic Director and Director of
Development for the
Transient Music Festival.

Previously, Charles served as the Co-Director of Opera Workshop at Plymouth State
University in Plymouth, NH and was the Director of Opera at Old Dominion
University in Norfolk, Virginia. After several successful years at Plymouth State; and
numerous successful full productions at Old Dominion University, Charles is honored
to be counted among the accomplished professionals at Opera Beaumont and the
Transient Music Festival.

Completing advanced vocal studies in the DMA program at the
University of
Houston, Charles holds the degrees Master of Music from the University of North
Carolina at Greensboro, and Bachelor of Music from Wingate University. Charles
completed additional musical studies in Voice at
Oberlin Conservatory in the studio
of the renowned vocal pedagogue,
Richard Miller and in Mannheim, Germany with
artists and coaches of the
Mannheim Staatsoper.

Now working regularly as a stage director, Charles continues to remain active as a
vocal artist and producer throughout the United States and in Germany.
As a Director, Charles has directed scene programs, concerts, galas and productions
for university and professional stages in 3 countries, 11 states and 26 cities.
Of those, include numerous world debuts and regional premieres of works.
While in New England, Charles was a founding member of the Board of Directors for the Boston Opera Collaborative, a regional
young vocal artist venue for greater New England Artists which is still thriving in its seventh season. While in Virginia, Charles
successfully reestablished full productions as a component of the performance program at Old Dominion University and boasted four
fully staged and costumed productions each season including a staged debut. Charles's arrival at ODU brought numerous accolades and
significant attention to the vocal performance program. A 3 year residency in Texas afforded countless enjoyable collaborations
including those with
Ars Lyrica Houston, Houston Cecilia, Houston Choral Artists, the Symphony of Southeast Texas, Vox
Chamber Choir, and Opera in the Heights. As a producer, director, singer and teacher, Charles continues on his personal mission to
make opera and other classical vocal music a living and viable art form deserving of a place on the American Cultural Landscape.
